The Puente Project helps students who are interested in Latino and multicultural literature successfully transfer to a four-year college or university. Students are counseled and mentored so that they may return to the community as leaders and mentors to future generations. By enrolling in this course, during the Fall term, Puente students will be automatically enrolled in THREE classes: English 1, English 896, and Counseling 1 for a total of 7.0 units. In addition, students are required to complete 3 hours of English learning activities and 3 hours of Counseling learning activities through a Multidisciplinary Success Center. Interested students must commit to one year of English instruction, attend events outside of class, and be willing to participate in ongoing tutoring and academic counseling. Reading proficiency or successful completion of Read 82 or Read 83 is highly recommended. Students interested in registering for the Puente Project must contact Puente Counselor Vidal Vargas by email at vvargas@lbcc.edu or Puente English Professor Darya Myers by email at d2myers@lbcc.edu
Prerequisite: Qualification through the LBCC assessment process for English, or ENGL 801B.
